Can we listen to the blessings song?
“Last year, a special musician and teacher in my life died. His illness was brief and his passing was premature for his age. He left a young daughter in the wake of his passing. It was very impactful for me and I spent a lot of time reflecting on this profound loss.
The music he created is relatable, positive and mind opening. I began to listen to it every morning in the car and realized it was a way for me to reflect and grieve. My young son was also in the car when his music was playing and he took quite an interest as well. One day he asked, “Who is this singing?”. I told him this person was an inspirational musician who changed the lives of many people. Every morning, we listened to a few choice songs that I realized resonated with him, like this one:
“Like raiiinnnnnnn, like rain, like rain…
Like rain is falling…shower blessings on us all”.
This was my son’s favorite song. It gave us an opportunity to talk about the meaning of a blessing and that led us to talk about the importance of wishing blessings for others whether they were friend or foe. He got to learn about something that takes many of us a lifetime to learn.
It also reminded me of the blessings I have and my profound awareness as a result of this man whose life ended far too soon.”
